The Narwhal Whale.

Narwhal whales are generally seen in groups of twenty to thirty with varying combination's of male, female, and claves. Narwhals can be mainly found in the Atlantic and Russian portions of the Antarctic.In the summer theses whales reside off the coast of Ellesmere and Baffin islands. in the winter they occupy the coast of Greenland.

The narwhal whale does not have a dorsal fin (back). These Legendary animals have two teeth. In the males the more prominent tooth grows into a sword like tusk this tusk can grow to be as big as 8.8 feet. Scientist have not found the reason for such a tusk but do believe that it is for mating purposes.

Like all other whales the narwhal uses echolocation to see and hunt they also use it to avoid predators on the ice such as polar bears,orcas,walrus's and sharks . Narwhals grow to be about 16 feet long and weigh up to 1.8 tons female narwhals are slightly smaller at about 13 feet long and 1.0 ton in weight. Narwhal means "corpse whale" This is do to the fact that narwhal skin is blueish-grey. young narwhals are brown in color and weigh about 275 pounds at five feet long.

The Narwhals divind duration is 4-20 minutes long. Its is estimated that are 10,000-45,000 narwhals left in the ocean.Narwhals are toothed whales (Suborder Odontoceti). They are one of 76 cetacean species, and are marine mammals.
The Narwhal's gestation period is 10-16 months. Calves are brown and have no spots (unlike adults who are blue-gray with whitish spots). Calves are nursed for about 4 months after birth.
